Pocono Spider ControlBlack Widow Spider-650

If you live in Northeastern Pennsylvania, you may be familiar with some of the region's spider species. While most spiders in the state are relatively harmless, highly venomous black widows and brown recluses can be found in many areas. Colwell Termite & Pest Control has proudly provided pest control services in Scranton and many nearby cities since 1981 and can help you with any spider problems that you may have.

Black Widows

Black widows are known for their black bodies and red hourglass markings on their abdomens. Females are significantly larger than males and have exceptionally large venom glands. Their bites are rarely lethal unless the victim is a child or a senior, but they do lead to severe pain throughout the body. Other symptoms of black widow bites include chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Brown Recluses

Brown recluses range in color from light brown to dark brown and have distinctive violin-shaped markings extending from their cephalothoraxes. Unlike black widows, brown recluses are not native to Pennsylvania. They are unable to survive the state's winters outdoors and must take shelter in heated buildings during colder months of the year. If one or more brown recluses wanders into your home, you and your family will be at risk until they are removed. Their bites are highly toxic and frequently lead to necrosis of the skin around the bite area.
